标题: Before You Spend Diablo 4 Runes Read This U4GM Guide
Do not spend a Rune until your active runewords are covered: the Season 16 PTR's Merchant of Mystery trades surplus Runes for caches, not guaranteed upgrades. Spare Diablo 4 runes can create extra item rolls, but check the PTR's listed cost and cache pool before committing any reserve.

Keep your runeword reserve intact

Keep enough Runes to finish the runewords your main character actually uses. Common Runes with no planned build use are better cache candidates than rare Runes that could complete a strong runeword.

A practical sorting line is two full sets of the Runes needed for your main build's runewords, plus one spare of each rare Rune. Put the excess in a dedicated stash tab; do not count a Rune as surplus just because it is not equipped right now.

Unique changes on the PTR may shift which runewords your build needs. Check your setup again before spending, especially if a changed Unique affects the skills or item slots your build relies on.

Compare the cache path with your other choices

Choose Merchant of Mystery when extra item rolls matter more to you than the perks on a competing Tyrael's Boons path. Each path has a different perk set, so the cache option has an opportunity cost even when your stash is full of spare Runes.

Choice
Spend when
Hold back when
Surplus common Runes
They exceed your runeword reserve and the displayed cache cost fits your plan.
You still need them for a planned runeword.
Rare Runes
You have no planned use and the PTR offer makes the exchange worthwhile.
They complete a runeword your build still needs.
Merchant of Mystery
You value more item rolls over another path's perks.
A competing path's direct power better fits your goal.
Use the PTR interface to review the actual offer rather than guessing at prices. Open Tyrael's Boons, select Merchant of Mystery, and check the Rune cost and cache description before confirming a purchase.

List the runewords your main build still needs.
Set aside two complete sets of their required Runes, plus one spare of each rare Rune.
Choose Merchant of Mystery only if its cache offer suits your plans better than the other available path.
Read the displayed cost and cache details, then make one purchase.
Check your inventory for the cache before repeating the purchase. Do not assume that rare Runes receive a better exchange rate unless the offer shows it.

A cache draws items from a defined pool, so buying one gives you an extra item roll rather than a guaranteed target. The purchase is confirmed by the cache appearing in your inventory; check there before spending more Runes.

Use the PTR to measure, not to stockpile blindly

The one-week Season 16 PTR is the time to record how many Runes each cache costs, what the cache can roll, and whether rare Runes receive a better rate. Those details determine whether the exchange is worth using, and the path's names, costs, and perks may still change before release.

PTR progress does not carry over to live realms, so purchases made there stay on the PTR. Treat the test as a chance to learn which Runes you can safely reserve for future spending, not as a way to deliver gear to a live character.

Farming changes may affect how quickly Runes accumulate during the test. Helltides start on the hour and half hour, mount speed has a faster baseline, and the new dual lair boss encounter pairs the Fractured Reaper with the Corrupted Reaper. Track your Rune totals during these activities instead of assuming a particular drop rate.

Before your next session, sort your stash into runeword reserves and surplus, then compare the Merchant's displayed cost with the cache offer. If you need materials rather than cache rolls, compare buy diablo 4 mats as a separate option, while leaving every planned runeword set untouched.
